Pioneers of week start new season

Each week, the Lewis & Clark athletics department chooses two athletes who have made outstanding contributions to their teams. These athletes are named the Pios of the Week. This past week, baseball player Owen Eisen ’27 and lacrosse player Finley Allen ’27 were given the award.

Eisen, a pitcher on the baseball team, pitched six innings against Puget Sound. Over the course of those six innings, Eisen achieved three strikeouts, allowing just two walks, three hits and no runs.

Eisen, however, redirects praise onto his teammates.

“I mean, I did pretty good, but it was also thanks to the team,” said Eisen. “A lot of them put in some work not getting many strikeouts and letting the defense work.”

Coming off of an incredible season last year, the baseball team is looking to repeat their accomplishments.

“We’re working our hardest; the coaches are all helping out. We’re doing what we need to do as a team to allow ourselves the best chance to repeat what we did last year and get to another regional,” said Eisen.

Allen, a first year midfielder on the newly formed LC Women’s Lacrosse Team, has made her presence known across the three games the team has played so far. She has scored goals in each game, along with a total of 10 turnovers and 10 ground balls.

As a new team this year, and with lacrosse being a predominantly East Coast sport, the formation of LC’s team has taken incredible effort and determination from players and coaches alike.

“I love my team’s commitment,” said Allen. “We’re really focusing on a culture of commitment and being able to trust your teammates”.

Allen reflected further on her teammates and the cooperative and supportive environment they are building together.

“I really love my teammates, they’re really great,” said Allen. “They push me, they know when to push me, they know when not to push me. I love the friendship we have on and off the field.”

Both the baseball and lacrosse teams are looking forward to an exciting season ahead, and you can find information about their upcoming games on lcpioneers.com.
