Pio of the week highlights team bonds

Every week the Lewis & Clark athletic department chooses two exemplary student athletes to highlight. The Pios of this week were cross country runner Macy O’Hara ’24 and swimmer Zach Martin ’26.

O’Hara broke a new indoor program record in the 200 meter, and was a member of two relay teams that reset program records.

Zach Martin described what makes the LC swim program special.

“The swim team here has a really good culture. We’re all very close inside and outside of practice. And I think in general sports culture here is very inclusive and interconnected. We do a lot of stuff with the golfers so it’s pretty fun,” Martin said.

Martin recently broke a 36 year program record in the 200 meter free-style, with a 1:42.51 time. He also won two All-NWC accolades at the Conference Championship Meet.

“It’s pretty exciting. I’ve been trying for that record since last year. I tried for it at our midseason meet, and I was just short of it, so I’m pretty excited that I was able to get (it) at our end of Season,” Martin said.

As to his future goals, Martin expressed interest in expanding the program.

“I hope that we can grow our program a little bit more. We still have a pretty small team. As it is we’re only about 20 people,” said Martin. “So hopefully we can grow the team a little more, do better at conference next year, and break a bunch of personal and school records.”
