D.I.Y. or Don’t

By Katie Naphas /// Features Editor

Winter’s coming to an end and the cold wind has taken its toll. Whether the chilled air has made your ears numb, your eyes leak, or just generally messed with your hair or your mood, something’s probably gone awry over the past couple of months. I’m not saying this is the solution to all your problems, but it could help you with at least one of them.

Personally, I don’t take the best care of my lips. For most of the year I’m fine but, in the winter, my lips are left out in the cold. Luckily, I’ve found a quick and easy way to at least pretend I’m taking care of myself: homemade lip scrub. My roommate regularly cooks, so for me it basically costs nothing, but if you do need to go pick up the ingredients, I can guarantee you’ll get a ton of mileage out of them (and cheap ingredients do just fine).

You only need four things:

1 tsp granulated (white) sugar

1 tsp brown sugar

1 tsp honey

½ tsp olive oil

The rest is hella easy. Measure it all out and mix it together and you’ll have enough there to get at least six uses. If you can, I recommend putting the remainder in a container and kept in a semi-cold place.

Now the fun part: just take the mixture and rub it all over your lips to exfoliate them. When you feel done, you can either wash it off with water or just go for it and lick it off. Whatever your style, it’s a fast, simple, and pretty inexpensive way to get soft lips that feel rejuvenated and to recover from the winter. Enjoy!
