ALTHOUGH WE are only a few weeks into the semester, many student-athletes have been on campus since mid-August, preparing for and heading into the fall season. Approximately a third of the freshman class is made up of student-athletes, and several sports teams have welcomed new team members and new team dynamics into the mix over the past few weeks. A few coaches shared with us their mid-September updates.

Head Coach Charlotte Copp – Rowing

“The team has a new energy this year andasanewcoachtoLC,butalsoanLC alum, I have felt so welcomed by this group of rowers,” she shared via email. “We are excited to pursue our competitive goal of fighting for a Northwest Conference Championship win, and we can’t do it without the help of new rowers coming into the sport. Looking for community? Maybe something to add more structure to your day? Come join the rowing team! We are taking walk-ons throughout the fall and into the spring semester. No experience required, we will teach you everything you need to know! Just email me, Head Coach Charlotte for more info. RowPios! charlottecopp@lclark.edu”

Head Coach Joe Bushman – Football

“Football got off to a great start with an opening win vs. Puget Sound 59-21. The Pioneers amassed a whopping 570 yards on offense and Devon Guest scored 3 TD’s. Justin Hope led the defense with 8 tackles and an interception. Football will host Montana Western at home on Saturday Sept 21 at 1 p.m. at Griswold Stadium where they will be honoring members of the special needs community.”

Assistant Coach Becca McCullough Women’s Soccer

“Women’s soccer had a very successful weekend winning 4-1 and 5-1. We are looking to use this momentum as we move into conference play this Wednesday against Willamette. We are excited for the group of newcomers as they have already made a positive impact on the team and are looking to our returners to set the tone for a season of lots of goal scoring.”

Head Coach Ann Dorris – Women’s Basketball

“As we head into the new season, I couldn’t be prouder of the commitment our team has already shown during the preseason and the strong foundation they are already setting. I’m excited to officially begin practices next week and start building with them. We have a young, talented group with tremendous potential.”

Stay tuned in future issues as we continue to track our student athletes’ accomplishments this season!
