Early fall boasts number of noteworthy local activities

As Autumn begins and the rainy season sets in, exciting weekend activities are a must to liven up the atmosphere. Luckily, there is a wide variety of things to do in Portland— from right on campus to across town.

Portland Vintage Market

This market will be held on Oct. 7, on the Portland Community College campus in SW Portland. If you are interested in vintage fashion, this is the place for you. The market has more than a hundred vendors and clothing for all genders, so no matter what you are looking for, you will be able to find it. Additionally, entry is completely free! This is the last vintage market of the year, so make sure to stop by before the rain takes over. Portland Art Museum: Black Artists of Oregon

Easily accessible by the Pioneer Express on weekends, the Portland Art Museum is currently housing an exhibit which calls attention to Black artists in the Oregon area. The exhibit highlights works that were created in the early 20th century, in addition to displaying  modern artwork. Sadé DuBoise, whose art was seen in the 2020 George Floyd protests, is one of many artists whose  work is on display. The Portland Art Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. 

Oaks Park Scaregrounds

If you cannot wait for Halloween, Oaks Park Scaregrounds is sure to get you into the mood. It is the Pacific Northwest’s largest haunted house and is held at Oaks Amusement Park in Sellwood, right across the river from campus. The park is home to three haunted houses, rides and plenty of food and drinks. Tickets are for sale on their website and cost between $25 and $30. The Scaregrounds are only open Friday and Saturday, so be sure to make room in your schedule for this spooky pastime.
