I interviewed men’s tennis player Michael Brewer (17), to learn a little bit about his background in the sport and how he’s handling the new season (2-1 in singles, 3-1 in doubles with Kevin Ross (’16)).
How long have you been playing tennis?
I’ve been playing tennis since I was three years old.
Going into your second year on LC tennis, how have has your approach changed from last year?
Well, last year was pretty much all indoor matches, but this year we’ve had and will continue to have a few outdoor matches. To prepare for that, I’ve been practicing outside to help condition myself for the outdoor matches.
What is your favorite tennis racquet?
My favorite racquet is the Head radical MidPlus.
How is it working with your doubles partner, fellow Northwest Conference Athlete of the Week Kevin Ross?
It’s great playing doubles with Kevin. He probably has the best hands on the team.
What do you like the most about playing at LC?
I like the matches we play, and the Spring Break trip is always something to look forward to.
You were named NWC Athlete of the Week for your performances over the previous week. How does that feel?
It was pretty cool. I wasn’t really expecting it, so I was surprised when I heard about it.
What are your hopes for the rest of the season?
As a team, we hope to place second in the conference this year
